National AIDS Co-ordination Committee (NACC) meeting held in Teku Kathmandu today. Honourable State Minister for Health and Population Mr. Khadka Bahadur Basyal chaired the meeting. Minister Khadka suggested work in the co-ordinated approach among all important stakeholders in building effective response to HIV and AIDS in Nepal.

The NAP 2008-2011 serves as a blueprint for articulating the necessary actions to achieve universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support.

The first National AIDS Policy was developed and introduced in 1995.

The National HIV/AIDS Strategy is a national guiding document and a road map for the next five years for allsectors, institutions and partnersinvolved in the response to HIV and AIDS in Nepal to meet the national goal; to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support with two major programmatic objectives (i) reduce new HIV infections by 50% and (ii) reduce HIV‐ related deaths by 25%, by 2016. ..

National estimates have been developed every two years since 2003, led by the NCASC with close collaboration from a range of technical experts, partners and epidemiologists from the UNAIDS, WHO and FHI. This contains information about estimations of adult HIV prevalence.
